As part of an annual Veterans Awareness Week, St. Joseph’s College is celebrating local and student veterans, as well as active military members, through a series of in-person events Monday, Nov. 8, through Thursday, Nov. 11.
The Office of Military and Veteran Services organized the events, offering all students, faculty and staff a chance to honor and raise awareness about those who served and those who continue to serve in the armed forces.
Student Veterans Panel
Monday, Nov. 8, in the McGann Conference Center • Common Hour
Hear student veterans discuss details from their military service experiences, then ask your own questions during a Q&A.
Veterans Day Celebration
Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the McGann Conference Center • Common Hour
This year’s Veterans Day Celebration will highlight the inaugural recipient of SJC’s U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Award, named after a local hero who grew up in Patchogue and was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005. The scholarship founder, Murphy’s father Daniel J., will be a guest speaker at the event.
Each veteran and active service member in attendance will receive the 2021 Student Veterans of America Challenge Coin.
Veterans Day Luncheon
Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Veterans Resource Center • Common Hour
Join the Office of Military and Veteran Services and the Student Veterans of America for a Veterans Day Luncheon honoring all who served. Help show your support for all student and community service members and veterans.
Each event is open to all SJC students, faculty and staff, as well as local community members, and lunch will be served. Outside guests will be required to wear a mask, fill out a health questionnaire and have their temperature checked.
