SJC Long Island students, faculty and staff gathered outside on the quad Monday during Common Hour for Mass on the Grass.
“The scripture that we’ve been invited to reflect upon today reminds us that the God who calls us, calls everyone to the table,” said Father Francis Pizzarelli, S.M.M., DCSW. “He doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter what your objective religion is, what your sexual orientation is, what your socio-economic status is, or where you’ve been or what you’ve done in your life.
“Because the God that calls us to love and forgive does not judge, does not impose shame or guilt or blame,” Fr. Frank continued. “But He invites us to do what He does: to heal and reach out. He’s a God who calls us to be men and women of integrity.”
The annual event, hosted by Campus Ministry, celebrates the first Mass of the new academic year. This year, the musical group The HIMS gave a special performance.
Mass is held Mondays and Wednesdays during Common Hour in the campus chapel.
