The SJC Brooklyn Office of Admissions gave the Class of 2025 a warm welcome last week during its Virtual Accepted Student Day.
New students spent the afternoon interacting with SJC faculty, staff and students, through live Zoom sessions, connecting with financial aid representatives, and learning about everything the College offers.
Student Government Association Vice President Alexis Buchanan ’22 gave her new classmates an energetic welcome in a prerecorded video in front of Tuohy Hall.
“St. Joseph’s College is unlike any College I know,” said Buchanan, a psychology major. “In the heart of one of the biggest cities in the United States, it’s easy to feel alone and overwhelmed. However, the community atmosphere here at St. Joseph’s College makes you feel at home.”
Buchanan of Murrieta, California, found her home away from home in the Student Life and Athletics departments at St. Joseph’s. Besides participating in clubs and serving in the student government, she plays on the women’s softball and cross country teams.
SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., shared Buchanan’s excitement in welcoming the new class of St. Joseph’s College students.
“At St. Joseph’s, you’re really a name and not a number,” Dr. Boomgaarden said in his remarks to the Class of 2025. “The center of our campus in Brooklyn is exciting. We have so many activities going on all the time, as well as being part of the great city of New York and the borough of Brooklyn. And even though we have this incredible environment, it’s also conducive to study, it’s conducive to getting deeply into your topics and it’s conducive to getting to know people.”
