St. Joseph’s College broke ground in the summer of 2021 on a new $17 million Student Center for SJC Long Island in Patchogue. The building will serve as a central hub for student life for the institution’s growing student population.
Initiated early in 2021, the Student Center Campaign has already raised more than $2.6 million in gifts and pledges, including numerous leadership commitments from members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, staff and friends.
“Our new Student Center project will benefit our students, faculty and staff — and the entire Long Island community,” St. Joseph’s President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., said. “This Student Center will assist us in our goal to bring a first-class educational experience to our students, and provide a valuable resource to the greater public.”
With more than 32,000 square feet of space, the two-story Student Center will serve as a home away from home for more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate learners. Additionally, the new space will include areas for faculty, staff, friends and partners within the community to enjoy.
The College has undertaken an ambitious $3 million capital campaign to support construction costs, contingency funds and a new dedicated endowment to help offset the long-term maintenance of the new facility.
“I am grateful to attend a college where the administration is continually looking forward,” said Antonia Dickson ’23, M.A. ’24, president of SJC Long Island’s Student Government Association. “To create a building centered around students, and knowing we need a building to meet and expand our relationships, is amazing.”
