SJC Long Island is set to celebrate the Class of 2021 Thursday, June 3, at 7 p.m. during a virtual Toast to the Graduates.
Student Life will host the event as a way to acknowledge all the accomplishments of this remarkable group of St. Joseph’s College seniors, who overcame perhaps the most challenging year of their lives while preparing to graduate from college.
“Class of 2021, although this is not the year you expected, you did it!” said Janelle Hill, associate vice president for Student Life at SJC Long Island. “We are excited to celebrate each of you with this virtual ‘Toast’ to honor your many achievements. Congratulations, and we wish you well in your journey.”
During the virtual toast, students will hear from Eileen White Jahn, Ph.D., executive dean and professor of business, and Christopher Carroll ’88, Esq., chair of the College’s Board of Trustees, as well as the undergraduate and graduate speakers Yicel Moreno ’21 and Michael DeCicco ’18, MBA ’21. Moreno is earning a B.A. in Child Study with a Concentration in Speech, and DeCicco will graduate with an MBA in Health Care Management. Melissa Michaud ’01, president of the Long Island Alumni Board, will also address the class.
The toast will also include a commemorative slideshow of well wishes from members of the SJC community. Students who have not yet done so can pick up their St. Joseph’s College champagne flute in the Office of Student Involvement, Leadership and Intercultural Engagement located in the Student Hospitality Lounge, Room 6.
“The Toast to Graduates celebration has been designed to compliment the on-ground commencement ceremony this year,” said Shantey Hill, vice president for Student Life and Campus Services. “Due to New York state COVID-19 restrictions on capacity, this kick-off event allows us to acknowledge and celebrate the graduating Class of 2021 and all they’ve accomplished with those who cannot be in attendance on Commencement day.”
More than 1,000 students will earn their degrees as part of SJC Long Island’s Class of 2021, with an official ceremony taking place on June 4.
