Ten student-athletes from the Brooklyn Campus of St. Joseph’s University, New York are the institution’s inaugural inductees into the New York Beta Delta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, a national college athlete honor society.
Founded in 1996, Chi Alpha Sigma is the first and only academic sorority/fraternity that specifically recognizes four-year collegiate student-athletes for their athletic and academic successes. To be eligible, students must achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fourth full-time semester and meet the organization’s GPA requirement.

Student-athletes inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma included Doug Paider (left) and Lauren Van Der Kamp.
The formal induction of the 10 SJNY student-athletes coincided with The Vandy’s, the Brooklyn Campus’ athletic award banquet that was held earlier this month.
“We were delighted to honor and induct our first ten seniors this year into the New York Beta Delta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma. To be recognized, students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be a member of a varsity athletics team and must also demonstrate strong character and citizenship,” said Megan Valentine, director of athletics and recreation.
The students inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma for the Class of 2025 are: Heather Bollmann (women’s soccer); Danielle Bourne (women’s cross country/flag football); Stefanie DeMarco (flag football); Arturo Franco (men’s soccer); Michael Gardener (baseball); Matthew Kieblesz (men’s soccer); Victor Naci (men’s soccer); Doug Paider (baseball); Lauren Van Der Kamp (softball/women’s cross country); and Diego Volpe (men’s soccer).
“These student-athletes truly represent what it means to be a St. Joseph’s University, Brooklyn student-athlete, and we wish them the very best as they embark upon the next stage of their life,” added Valentine.
The student-athletes were presented with yellow and black cords to wear during SJNY’s 106th annual commencement ceremony.
