SJC Long Island was like home to her.

And despite graduating in 2021, Carly Credidio said the College continues to offer her the kind of support and comfort one expects from a home.
“Because of St. Joseph’s College, I have not only been able to form great connections in and out of workplaces, but I have also been able to adapt to change from the plans I once thought I wanted,” said Credidio, 22, recipient of SJC Long Island’s inaugural Donald R. Boomgaarden Leadership in Action Award last spring.
“I know SJC has opened so many doors for my success, not only with mentors that I still communicate with, but with the idea of always being able to learn from life’s experiences,” added Credidio, who earned a B.S. in Business Administration.
Created last year by the College’s Board of Trustees, the annual award was named in honor of the College’s current president and recognizes two graduating seniors — one from SJC Long Island and one from SJC Brooklyn — who have embraced characteristics of positive leadership, displayed traits that contribute to a positive campus environment and supported connections between various campus groups aimed to enhance the quality of student life.

Life After St. Joseph’s
Credidio said she’s continuing to learn and grow since graduating from St. Joseph’s.
“I have been working at Advanced Orthopedics,” the Farmingville resident said. “I also have continued my love for soccer, which I was able to pursue at SJC, into coaching for Cantera Futbol. I learned that life is full of opportunities after graduating, and being open to this helps with personal growth.”
She’s looking to continue that growth at grad school in the near future, where she hopes to pursue a master’s in health care. As for which school she’ll attend, she’s not sure yet.
“Working in health care, I have learned about managing and have became interested in the field. I am looking to use the degree I received at SJC, while building on to a newly found enjoyment and career,” Credidio said. “SJC is definitely an option on the list.”

Credidio credits her alma mater with helping to shape her into who she is today.
“SJC has absolutely helped and prepared me for my current and future endeavors,” said Credidio, a three-time orientation leader who served as the operations manager of the Campus Activities Board, was president of Students Taking an Active Role in Society (STARS) and a captain of the women’s soccer team.
“I miss the community at SJC and all the service opportunities I was given to help the outside community,” added Credidio, who went on multiple alternative break trips and volunteered for the Special Olympics through the College. “SJC is a place for which I will forever be thankful.”
