Giving Tuesday was a huge success for St. Joseph’s University, New York, with more than $42,000 raised from more than 400 donations.
This year’s grand totals — $42,161 from 465 donors — surpassed last year’s Giving Tuesday totals of $34,500 from 390 donors to the University.
St. Joseph’s Student Emergency Fund far exceeded its $2,000 goal, accumulating $3,470 from 43 supporters, according to numbers reported so far. The emergency fund helps students cope with a crisis, such as the challenge of illness or caring for a family member. The support helps students in such dire situation stay at SJNY.
Emergency fund donations — totaling more than $620,000 — have assisted nearly 350 SJNY students over the last 11 years.
The University’s Textbook fund also did considerably well on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, raising $775 from 20 donors, according to numbers tabulated thus far.
“Once again we saw the SJNY community come together to support our students and to meet the needs of our campuses,” said Flavio Bollag, assistant vice president for advancement and engagement at SJNY. “Giving back is just one way that our alumni and friends, as well as faculty, staff and parents, help ensure that each student enjoys the very best of the St. Joe’s experience.
“We are grateful to each and every donor. Every gift matters,” he added.
Among St. Joseph’s athletics teams, the Brooklyn Campus’ softball team and the Long Island campus’ baseball team experienced the most success on Giving Tuesday, global day of charitable giving that takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the United States.
Brooklyn’s softball team received 40 donations totaling nearly $3,000, while the baseball squad at the Long Island Campus accumulated more than $13,000 is giving from 113 donors.
