Incoming SJNY students met classmates, staff and faculty, and acclimated themselves to University surroundings through activities, workshops and presentations.
St. Joseph’s President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., and Vice President for Student Life, Athletics and Campus Services Shantey Hill-Hanna addressed attendees on both campuses, offering welcome messages and wisdom.
“At St. Joseph’s, it’s not just about getting you a great education, a lot of knowledge and a degree, it’s also about helping you develop yourself,” President Boomgaarden said to the crop of new Brooklyn Campus students.
“And so that idea of what’s in Latin called cura personalis – the whole person – is an essential part of the education of St. Joseph’s students,” he added.
After welcome sessions, students on both campuses participated in orientation workshops designed specifically for freshmen and transfer students. Attendees mingled with faculty and staff from various departments and enjoyed music, games, and raffles during lunch.
Brooklyn Campus students ended their program with a scavenger hunt in the Hill Center while their counterparts on Long Island wrapped up their afternoon with an acclimation session moderated by Executive Dean Eileen Jahn, Ph.D.
