December is officially here, which means it’s time for SJC Long Island’s annual Christmas gift drives! Join offices and clubs as they help those less fortunate celebrate the holiday season this year.
The Office of Campus Ministry’s annual Christmas Gift Drive is sponsoring 25 families in need through the Wyandanch Homes and Property Development Corporation (WHPDC).
Those interested in donating can sign up using a Google Form, which allows them to choose if they’d like to shop for an individual or a whole family, or donate a gift card instead. A specific donation request will then be sent via email.
“Every year, Campus Ministry connects with WHPDC to help provide families in need with a full holiday experience,” Cristian Murphy ’14, director of Campus Ministry, said. “Giving back during this season is so important.”
More than 50 people have already filled out the Google Form, Murphy ’14 reported.
“I thank you so much for your constant support, and more importantly, the families thank you,” he added.
All items for the Christmas Gift Drive must be donated unwrapped to the Office of Campus Ministry by Monday, Dec. 20.
More Ways to Live Our Mission This Holiday Season
Below is a lift of additional recent and current holiday service efforts at SJC Long Island.

Stuff a Stocking: The Office of Student Involvement, Leadership and Intercultural Engagement hosted this year’s “Stuff a Stocking” event, which drew a lot of participants. Gifts benefit families and children in need, right in Patchogue.
Pre-Health and Biology Clubs’ Charity Event: Participants enjoyed free food at the Pre-Health Club and Biology Club’s end-of-the-year party/charity event on Wednesday, Dec. 8, during Common Hour in O’Connor Hall. Attendees were asked to bring either $5 or what they can, which will help support the clubs’ charities: St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Francis W. Antonawich Memorial Scholarship.
Project Sunshine’s Annual Stocking Stuffer Raffle: Profits will help Project Sunshine’s parent organization bring sunshine to over 200,000 pediatric patients. Donate to earn raffle tickets. Prizes include gift cards for Amazon, Starbucks and Panera Bread; Vera Bradley items; coffee mugs; and more.
Women’s Soccer Team Clothing Drive: The women’s soccer team is collecting men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and shoes; stuffed animals and small plastic toys (no puzzles, legos, board games or toys with multiple pieces); and linens, including towels, curtains and table linens (no blankets and/or comforters). Donations can be dropped off at the Outdoor Field Complex on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m., or given to a member of the team.
Women’s Lacrosse Team Winter Coat Drive: SJC Long Island’s women’s lacrosse team is hosting a winter coat drive, collecting new and gently used jackets and gloves, which will be donated to the organization Long Island Breast Cancer Help Awareness & Support NY.
