Nearly 300 high school seniors joined SJC Long Island for Virtual Admitted Student Reception on Saturday to learn more about the College and celebrate their acceptance.
“The event was a major success,” said Kathleen Magistro, director of undergraduate admissions. “While nothing can fully replicate an on campus experience, we were able to provide students with an engaged, interactive event.”
Pre-recorded messages from Magistro; President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D.; Interim Executive Dean Eileen White Jahn, Ph.D.; and Director of the Office of Career Preparation and Professional Development Jennifer Rooney welcomed the students and congratulated them on their acceptance.
“For parents and for students, this is a big moment,” Dr. Boomgaarden said. “It’s an accomplishment, and something to hold dear to your heart, that you have this opportunity to learn, to thrive and to grow at such a fine school.”
The future Golden Eagles also joined a live chat, moderated by Director of Operations Andrea Volk, in which they had the opportunity to pose questions to a panel of current students about student life, athletics, registration and academics. They also heard from Shantey Hill-Hanna, vice president for athletics and campus services and interim vice president for student life, about the more than 50 clubs and organizations students can join, as well as the 20 NCAA Division III athletic teams.
Interactive sessions with the Office of Admissions and the Office of Financial Aid also answered students’ questions about their next steps toward enrollment, and a virtual tour offered a better look at the College campus.
“We received positive feedback from our guests, who stated that this event made them more comfortable with their decision to attend SJC and allowed them to see what awaits them,” Magistro said.
And the accepted students didn’t let social distancing stop them from sharing their SJC Pride! Check out some of the photos submitted by the Class of 2024, eager to join the SJC family.
