Faculty members of The Writer’s Foundry at SJC Brooklyn will conduct a virtual panel discussion concerning racial justice on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Writer’s Foundry instructor Steven Hobbs will moderate the event, “Writing and Resistance: How to Be a Literary Citizen.” The event will be aired live on Zoom, and is free and open to the public.
The panel is comprised of the following authors:
- Anais Duplan, author of “Blackspace: On the Poetics of An Afrofuture.”
- Cleyvis Natera, author of the forthcoming “Neruda on the Park.”
- Randall Horton, author of the forthcoming collection of poems, “289-128.”
- Mitchell S. Jackson, author of “Survival Math.”
“Writing & Resistance: How to be a Literary Citizen” will address the role and the responsibility of the writer during times of critical social unrest. The writers will discuss their respective works and present their views about the balance between art and activism.
“This discussion will feature some of the most talented writers out there right now,” said Lee Clay Johnson, director of The Writer’s Foundry. “It’s not only about examining relevant and timely issues, but also about celebrating the practice of literary creation.”
