Among the SJNY Brooklyn Bears flag football team’s many victories this season, there is one more to be celebrated. Recently, it was announced that the team will be moving to the ECAC/New York Jets Flag Football League for the 2027 season.
This announcement comes recently after the women’s flag football team secured a runner-up finish in the inaugural Skyline Conference Flag Football Championship. The Bears also gained national attention this season by advancing to the quarterfinal round of the National Collegiate Flag Football League Championship.
The move to the ECAC is a massive transition for the team, who made its debut during the spring 2025 season with a brief six-game schedule against Skyline opponents.
“Joining the ECAC/Jets Flag Football League is a significant step forward for our program, enhancing our competition, scheduling and foundational growth,” said Domenico DeLisi, head women’s flag football coach on the Brooklyn Campus. “Our players and coaches are incredibly excited for this opportunity provided by the ECAC and the New York Jets.”
The ECAC/New York Jets Flag Football League was established in the spring of 2026 and has immediately become the nation’s largest collegiate women’s flag football circuit. This is largely in part to a $1 million grant from the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.
The ECAC league is expecting 32 teams, with four divisions made up of eight teams participating in approximately 12 conference games. This will culminate in a postseason championship throughout the last week of April and the first week of May.
