Students at both St. Joseph’s University campuses took some time out of their busy December end-of-semester activities to reach out to the community organizations and spread a little holiday joy.
SJLI’s Eaglettes kickline club and the Sharps performed a holiday show for the residents of Village Walk Senior Living in Patchogue, bringing smiles to many.

The Long Island Campus Recreation Club and Theta Phi Alpha held an evening of Merry Making, decorating ornaments and raising funds for Amyotrohic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). All proceeds were donated to the ALS Ride For Life, an annual event which raises research funds.

During the first two weeks of December, the Long Island Campus Ministry collected gifts for children and gift cards for adults, providing a way for students to make Christmas a bit brighter for some members of the local community.
St. Joseph’s Long Island Campus Project Sunshine group made holiday cards and ornaments and collected gift donations for residents at Angela’s House, which provides care for medically challenged children. The student group also held a raffle with proceeds supporting Project Sunshine’s parent organizations’ efforts to bring sunshine to over 200,000 pediatric patients. Donations go towards funding events such as sending Sunshine craft kits, teleplay and hospital visits.

The Brooklyn Campus NSSLHA (National Student Speech Language Hearing Association) and Campus Ministry joined forces to collect gifts for St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital and Toys for Tots. The collection ran at the beginning of December and culminated with a holiday party to celebrate and fill out holiday cards for the children at St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital. The celebration featured games, food and a photo-op spot for students in ugly sweaters.

As part of its year-long effort, the Brooklyn Campus Child Study Club held a “No Kid Hungry Fundraiser” in late November. Monetary donations were accepted.

St. Joseph’s BASIC (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) held a Worship Night and raised funds for Soundview Pregnancy Center, an organization that helps to provide free medical and mental care for pregnant women and their families. The celebration featured hot chocolate, raffle baskets, live worship music, food, and a prayer station.
The Brooklyn Campus’ Poder Latino club hosted a cookie decorating event.
