The Writer’s Foundry will celebrate the release of “Four in Hand,” a collection of poems written by faculty member Alicia Mountain, Ph.D., at a free event on April 12.
The book launch will take place in the Tuohy Hall auditorium and will feature the author reading and in conversation with poet Brenda Shaughnessy and editor Ariel Yelen.
Mountain, an assistant teaching professor in the Brooklyn Campus’ MFA program, “pursues the implications of national political identity, queer sexuality and the practice of poetry itself” in her latest offering. The work is experimental yet conventional in nature and is comprised of four heroic sonnets.
Mountain won the Iowa Poetry Prize for her debut collection “High Ground Coward” in 2018 and was the 2020-21 Artist in Residence at the University of Central Oklahoma. She was formerly a Clemens Doctoral Fellow at the University of Denver.
Set for release on April 4, “Four in Hand” has garnered early plaudits as “a blood rush, a mode of love in language crafted with care and immersion and insistence,” according to Khadijah Queen, author of “Anodyne.”
Mountain tackles the mental health crisis, environmental degradation and the “collective complicity” of late-stage capitalism in her second collection.
