St. Joseph’s University, New York has surged ahead in the latest U.S. News & World Report college rankings, claiming the No. 45 position in the Regional Universities – North category.
This significant jump of three spots from last year’s No. 48 ranking underscores the University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its mission to serve its diverse student body, SJNY President Donald R. Boomgaarden said.
“Our success in the U.S. News & World Report rankings over the past several years is undoubtedly due to the hard work of our faculty and staff, as well as to the success of the wonderful students and alumni who make up this community,” Dr. Boomgaarden said. “In an era when many institutions struggle to find their mission and identity, St. Joseph’s University, New York stands out due to its faithful reliance on the intellectual and spiritual traditions of the Sisters of St. Joseph.”
Not only did they place in the top 50 in the region, the University also was ranked as the 19th Best College for Veterans and is No. 39 in Top Performers for Social Mobility, according to the publication released last week.
Dr. Boomgaarden noted that St. Joseph’s liberal arts roots and its dedication to the education of the whole person continue to set up the institution for success.
“Our approach is powerful and effective, and has been transforming the world around us for over 100 years,” he said of the University founded in 1916 by the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Katie Mele, a senior majoring in English major who vice president of the Creative Writing Club said she was not surprised that St. Joseph’s is so highly ranked.
“As a transfer student with three years of experience on campus, I find myself wholeheartedly loving every moment of it,” she said. “It wasn’t until I helped create the Creative Writing Club on campus that I found my place at St. Joe’s. I have had such a positive experience at our school and hope to see the University rank even higher in the future.”
Robert Tretola, a child study and speech communication majors and the event coordinator on the Campus Activities Board said he cherished the University community.
“One of my favorite things about school is being on the board of the campus activities board,” he said. “I really enjoy planning and hosting the events on campus.”
