What sets St. Joseph’s College apart from other colleges?
Jack Calareso: To be honest, I don’t think SJC is unique. There are many exceptional small, private colleges. But what impresses me is the degree of dedication expressed by everyone associated with SJC. Alumni/ae and students at other institutions may care about their college as much, but no one cares more.
Carrie Bhada: The faculty and staff’s commitment to our students is unmatched.
Christopher Frost: The careful integration (or “melding”) of the liberal arts, professional preparation and experiential learning—with mindful reflection on how those three components hang together (“cohere”, from which we derive the noun, coherence).
Shantey Hill: Our programming and attention to detail sets us apart from other colleges. SJC doesn’t just provide programs and services for the sake of doing so. I think what you find here is that we really focus on enhancing the student as a whole and making sure that we provide programs and services that are intentional to their mission. We are a college that prepares you well academically, but also ensures that when you graduate you possess transferable skills that make you a great servant leader.

Moreover, in our small college setting, we can accomplish what simply cannot be done at larger, more impersonal institutions. Our students benefit from ongoing interaction with their professors as well as their participation in a full campus life experience that fosters engagement, community and leadership. It is understandable that SJC enjoys high retention and graduation rates. SJC is innovative in providing a curriculum that is current and relevant. Jessica McAleer Decatur: St. Joseph’s College is a special place. Rich in history and tradition, the College prepares its students for a life beyond the classroom. Another differentiator is SJC’s commitment to providing an affordable education, with a tuition cost that is nearly $9,000 less than the average published tuition and fee cost at private non-profit, four-year institutions (according to the College Board’s “2015-16 Trends in College Pricing”). Additionally, SJC Brooklyn is further differentiated by its beautiful historic buildings, green space on our urban campus, parking facilities for our students and our brand-new and modern Hill Center for athletics and recreation.
Michelle Papajohn: SJC is an affordable small liberal arts college that provides a highly rated education in Brooklyn and on Long Island. Technology has changed the way our students learn, the way our teachers teach and the communication that takes place between students and teachers. Our classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to foster that teaching and learning. We offer our students access to software and tools that allow for active learning, collaboration and communication. Students can bring their devices to campus, access software and printing in the cloud and use mobile apps to access their student information, register for classes and pay their bills.
Jill Rehmann: While many colleges have diverse student bodies, what sets us apart is how integrated our students are as they engage in their activities on campus. I usually don’t even see the diversity, but instead the deep connection students have with each other as they engage in their activities.
