When you speak to students, what kind of feedback do they give you? What do they like most about SJC?
Christopher Frost: They like the “up close and personal” nature of learning, which here at SJC means direct participation in the process. In their own way, their reports endlessly confirm that “learning is not a spectator sport.”
Rose Mary Howell: The vast majority of students have told me that “St. Joseph’s College is like a family.”
Gigi Lamens: I am always impressed by the high level of school spirit among our students. I often hear from them that they feel their educational and campus life experiences at SJC are far better than what their friends are experiencing at other institutions. Students appreciate the small classes that enable them to participate in hands-on learning, meaningful research and the opportunity to co-author journal articles and present at conferences alongside their professors. Our Professional Studies and graduate students often praise the advising and service they receive, as well as the diversity of our academic offerings and class scheduling.
Christine Murphy: Prospective students (as well as practitioners in the industry) who have done their research are always very impressed by SJC’s success rate on the NYS teacher certification. SJC Brooklyn students had a 100 percent pass rate on the EdTPA exam last year! Generally, all students and families are struck by the personal attention and the many opportunities to succeed and get noticed at SJC Brooklyn, whether it is through leadership, academics, research, athletics, campus ministry, clubs, activities or other ways.
Michelle Papajohn: Students love being part of the SJC community. I have found their insight to be invaluable. My management team and I meet with student leaders each semester and learn so much from them about what technology is most useful. They have so much to offer and are always willing to partner with us in moving technology forward on both campuses.
J. Rehmann: Our students have a sense that their professors and the staff really care. Faculty and staff take the time to listen and help, showing genuine interest in each student.
J. Roth: My interaction with students is mainly with those who work in the offices. I think for the most part they are happy with the College and the friendships they have made here.
Sherrie Van Arnam: Students are genuinely appreciative of the opportunities available to them, inside and outside of the classroom. They recognize the commitment of faculty and staff to a “student-centered” learning experience that assists them in developing career skills while nurturing dreams. Participation in student government, Alternative Spring Break, the Student Leadership Experience, athletics, internships, multicultural events and so many other programs enhances overall satisfaction with their education at St. Joseph’s.
