A new season of Brooklyn Voices kicks off the first week of September with a presentation by famed American journalist Dan Rather.
The former CBS News anchor will be center stage Sept. 3 with author and MSNBC broadcast journalist Katy Tur in the Tuohy Hall auditorium for a discussion about his book, “What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism.” Published in 2017, the book features of collection of original essays that analyze what it means to be an American. Tickets are $20, which includes a seat and a copy of the book.
The Brooklyn Voices literary series is a partnership between the Greenlight Bookstore and SJC Brooklyn. The bookstore and College regularly team up to give local published authors the opportunity to hold discussions about their literary works.
The St. Joseph’s College community is excited to welcome this season’s lineup of accomplished authors.
“Our long-standing partnership with Greenlight Bookstore for Brooklyn Voices represents one of the College’s contributions to the vibrant cultural and literary scene of Brooklyn,” said Raymond D’Angelo, interim executive dean at SJC Brooklyn. “This slate of writers, ranging from Pulitzer-prize winning historians and acclaimed fiction writers to biting social critics make for fascinating events on our campus this fall.”

- Ann Patchett, author of “The Dutch House,” will discuss her novel on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, which includes a seat and a copy of Patchett’s book.
- Eric Foner will present his book “The Second Founding: How the Civil War and Reconstruction Remade the Constitution” in a conversation with MSNBC journalist and political commentator Chris Hayes on Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, which includes a seat and a copy of Foner’s book.
- Mark Bittman, who penned “How to Cook Everything — Completely Revised Twentieth Anniversary Edition: Simple Recipes for Great Food,” will present his book Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in a conversation with food writer and cookbook author Melissa Clark. Tickets are free with an RSVP. VIP tickets are $45 and include a pre-event reception and a copy of Bittman’s book.
- Lindy West discusses her novel, “The Witches Are Coming,” on Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, which includes a seat and a copy of her book.
