Two separate groups of St. Joseph’s University, New York students visited Greece for study abroad trips in May and June.
Honors students from the Long Island and Brooklyn campuses spent nine days exploring Ancient Greek sights and structures in Athens, Delphi, and Olympia. A group of SJNY business students learned about food production and tourism on their eight-day trip.
The Office of Global Studies, which offers faculty-led and non-faculty-led international experiences for SJNY students annually, sponsored both trips.
After touring Delphi’s sites and museums, the Honors students spent a day in Olympia at the site of the first Olympic Games. In Nafplio, travelers enjoyed time at a seaside resort and visited the ancient cities of Mycenae and Epidaurus.
The trip wrapped up after stops in Athens – where the group visited the Acropolis Museum – and Cape Sounion for a visit to the Temple of Poseidon.
SJNY business students started their trip in Athens before making their way to Kalavryta to learn about the production exportation of wine and feta cheese.
The group learned about Ouzo, a popular alcohol in Greece, at a distillery in Nafplio and observed olive oil and honey production in Melas and Melissafarm, respectively. Poros Island was the site of the trip’s farewell dinner.
