The St. Joseph’s College community is getting ready to celebrate the luck of the Irish on Saturday in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Joining in the festivities of the parade has been a tradition for St. Joe’s students, faculty and alumni for over six decades.
Christian Branch, a Class of 2011 graduate and the assistant for campus events and technical services in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, said he looks forward to marching in the parade with his alma mater every year.
“Being a native New Yorker, you grow up watching things like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on television and, at least for me, want to be able to participate,” Branch said. “When I started working at St. Joseph’s in 2014, I was asked to help with the parade and had an amazing time.
“The parade is a chance to bring together every aspect of SJC life — with students, alumni, staff, administrators, family and friends from both campuses coming out to march,” he continued. “It is a perfect event that keeps us rooted in tradition.”
Before the parade, St. Joseph’s College will host a special breakfast for alumni and their guests at 10 a.m. at Connolly’s Pub and Restaurant, located at 121 W. 45th St. Tickets for the breakfast are $30. Visit here to get them in advance.
Students can sign up to march in the parade — beginning at West 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues at 12:40 p.m. — by emailing Branch at cbranch@sjny.edu or by visiting the Student Life Suite this week.
