Saint Mark Catholic Academy held a dress down fundraiser earlier this year, supporting SJC Brooklyn’s Joseph M. Lewinger ’00 Endowed Scholarship for Future Educators.
On St. Joseph’s Day, members of the Saint Mark Catholic Academy gathered at the school — just shy of eight miles away from SJC Brooklyn — in memory of Lewinger.
Lewinger, a 2000 graduate of SJC Brooklyn, died in the spring of 2020 at age 42 due to complications of the coronavirus.
He devoted his life to helping others, was civic-minded, and was remembered for his signature smile that touched the hearts of everyone he met.
During his career, Lewinger climbed the ranks at The Mary Louis Academy, an all-girls Sisters of St. Joseph accredited high school in Queens — most recently serving as the school’s assistant principal.
Saint Mark Catholic Academy is an avid supporter of SJC Brooklyn, with seven members of its staff as students or alumni of the College, including Principal Mark Wilson ’08.
