Raising More than $63,000
April 15 marked St. Joseph’s University, New York’s eighth annual Giving Day — an opportunity for students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends and family to support a variety of university wide projects and initiatives. After a tally of the day’s totals, the University is proud to announce that it received more than 700 donations, adding up to more than $63,000.
The SJNY Board of Trustees once again led the way with their generosity, matching the first $8,500 in donations made during Giving Day.
Appreciation also goes out to this year’s Giving Day ambassadors, who helped spread the word and encouraged their peers, alumni and other members of the university community to participate.
“We are grateful to the SJNY community for their generosity and spirit of giving. Once again Giving Day brought together our students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends to harness the collective power of giving to support our students and timely needs across our campuses,” said Flavio Bollag, assistant vice president for advancement and engagement at SJNY.
This year’s donors spanned generations from alumni who graduated decades ago to soon-to-be graduates of the Class of 2026.
“It was wonderful to see that the Student Emergency Fund once again was one of the most popular giving designations, putting much-needed financial assistance in the hands of our students,” Bollag continued. “And congratulations to the class of 2026, many of whom made a donation of $20.26 and will be proudly wearing their green philanthropy cords at commencement in just a few weeks. Seeing them begin their journey as alumni and as benefactors of our institution is always inspirational.”
One Day. One Community. One Incredible Impact.
Giving Day 2026 drew attention to projects across several initiatives that centered on academic and research opportunities; reinventing teaching, learning and collaborative environments; scholarship, student aid and fellowships; and student engagement, campus life and athletics.
One such example was the SJNY Brooklyn Biology Department, which exceeded its goal in raising $2,150 for a new fluorescence microscopy camera for advanced biology labs.
Meanwhile, the SJNY Art Club and SJNY Drama Society saw their donations go toward new equipment and supplies to further embrace students in their creative endeavors.
In terms of learning opportunities on a global scale, the SJNY study abroad program raised money in support of continuing to offer students transformative travel experiences beyond the classroom.
On the Long Island Campus, the BSN Club sought to raise funds for the University’s Nursing Department Assessment Lab. Through the purchasing and refurbishing of medical equipment and supplies, the nursing department can enrich the academic and clinical experiences of those preparing to join the next generation of health care professionals.
On the Brooklyn Campus, the ACES program received donations for its resource fund, which helps its students cover the cost of books and technology, provide coursework and materials and offer emergency assistance when needed.
As a university-wide initiative, the President’s Fund for Highest Priorities serves the institution’s long-term and short-term goals in advancing campus programs and services.
Speaking of campus programs, many of SJNY’s clubs and organizations were seeking funding to assist in student engagement and improving campus life. This included raising money to support the equestrian team’s summer clinic, helping the SJNY Dance Team compete at UDA nationals in Orlando, funding Campus Ministry’s retreat experience and service and mission trips, and sending BASIC (Brothers and Sister in Christ) to BASICCON, among several others.
Let’s Go Bears and Golden Eagles
And of course, it would not have been a Giving Day event without supporting the Brooklyn Bears and Long Island Golden Eagles athletic departments. Members throughout the SJNY community came together to raise money for the University’s many athletic teams with the Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball Team and Long Island Men’s Soccer Team receiving some of the highest donations.
SJNY’s Comprehensive Campaign
All of this year’s Giving Day donations count towards the University’s Comprehensive Campaign, which has nearly reached its $25 million goal.
