Two St. Joseph’s College administrators speak about the importance of voting during an “I Vote Because…” video produced by the Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph.
SJC Long Island Director of Campus Ministry Cristian Murphy and SJC Long Island Associate Professor and Director of Academic Advising S. Suzanne Franck, C.S.J., Ph.D., shared their inspiring thoughts along with dozens of staffers from eight other member campuses across the country. Each speaker was asked to share why they are voting and how their vote has been shaped by the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
The video has been posted to YouTube, and can be seen below. Murphy appears at the 3:36 mark of the nine-minute video; S. Suzanne delivers her message at the 5:40 point.
“When we look at the Sisters of St. Joseph, we look at a call to service the dear neighbor, and a service of responsibility towards our community,” Murphy says in the video. “And as an immigrant, myself, I feel an obligation to vote because it’s a gift that wasn’t always given to me.
“Go out and vote. No matter the party, no matter the side. Voice your opinion. It matters,” he adds.
S. Suzzanne says she votes “to foster love, unity and reconciliation among all people.”

I am a proud graduate of the Class of 1955 – SJC Brooklyn Campus. The Sisters of St. Joseph Brentwood are exceptional women…educated, dedicated, and caring. My four years at SJC when it was for women only formed my adult life to be loving, committed and being of service to others. I am giving back to SJC by endowing a student scholarship. I hope you will do the same. With a special shout out to Sister Mary Florence, my English professor who instilled in all of us the love of Shakepeare..
