St. Joseph’s College is no stranger to giving back. Throughout the academic year, students volunteer time and energy toward service-oriented activities. Whether participating in an alternative winter break or volunteering at a local soup kitchen, our students step up and help out in a big way.
During the holiday season, SJC Long Island ramps up its efforts to provide food, clothes and gifts to those in need. By partnering with local charities, shelters and food pantries, the College community does all it can to ensure no one goes hungry or cold during the holidays.
Check out some of our giving efforts this month below!
- The Student Veterans Association laid wreaths across veterans’ graves at Calverton Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America project. The group also collected care packages for distribution overseas with the help of Shepherd’s Gate Academy in Brentwood.
- The men’s baseball team held a Christmas USA Drive, collecting and donating over 110 toys to outreach services for the third-straight holiday season.
- Theta Phi Alpha sorority participated in selling Candy Cane Grams, with proceeds going toward The Anderson Center for Autism and Camp Friendship.
- The Art Club created handcrafted baskets with proceeds going toward Splashes of Hope, a nonprofit that transforms the environments of hospitals, healthcare centers and social service facilities with custom designed hand-painted murals.
- The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held a Battle of the Athletes competition, with all participants donating a toy to Toys-For-Tots.
- Faculty member Donna Pirich, alum Douglas Smith and the Kappa Mu Epsilon Math Honor Society helped Assemblyman Al Graf’s office collect hundreds of toys for displaced families.
- Kappa Beta Gamma sorority held a cookie jar fundraiser.
