As part of its annual Veterans Awareness Week recognition, St. Joseph’s University, New York’s Long Island Campus is set to celebrate local and student veterans, as well as active military members, through a series of in-person events Nov. 7-10. In honor of Veterans Day, the University will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11.
The Office of Military and Veteran Services organized the events, offering all students, faculty and staff a chance to honor and raise awareness about those who served and those who continue to serve in the armed forces.
Life of a Service Member: Mission 22
Monday, Nov. 7, in the Student Hospitality Lounge • Common Hour
View different aspects of military service, from equipment to uniforms and memorabilia. Attendees are invited to participate in a push-up challenge. Lunch will be provided.
SVA/VRC Open House
Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Veterans Resource Center (VCR) • Common Hour
Meet the Student Veterans of America (SVA) officers, and learn about how you can get involved and become an SVA member. SVA membership is open to all students, regardless of if they’re military members or veterans. Attendees can enter for a chance to win a free SVA shirt. Lunch will be provided.
Annual Veterans Day Celebration
Thursday, Nov. 10, in the McGann Conference Center • Common Hour
Join the Office of Military and Veteran Services as they conclude Veterans Awareness Week, while honoring all who served and who continue to serve. U.S. Air Force Veteran Kevin Hertell — the founder, president, executive director and creator of the Suicide Awareness and Remembrance (SAR) Flag — will serve as the guest speaker.
Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue in support of St. Joseph’s student and community veterans and military members. All service members and veterans will receive the 2022 SVA Challenge Coin. Lunch will be served.
